Independent-Learning Solutions is a service for exceptional students and their families.

ILS specializes in extraordinary learning-styles and creative comprehension tactics. Students who "learn differently" are given an inside-look at what it takes (and are asked to consider what it means) to be successful academically.  Students become familiar with management and organization strategies to make the system work in their favor.

Current operator Richard Baum employs a rapport-building, attention-getting and goal-oriented system that casually motivates students to harness their ambition and utilize their abilities.

Says Richard: "Grades, good or bad, don't measure potential. My specialty is introducing students to ways of exploration, organization and application. As students implement these techniques, they develop independence and confidence in their abilities. The results are extracurricular achievement, development of innate skills, boosts in self-esteem and improved executive functioning. Confidence and competence are the goals; elevated grades are a side-effect."

With a teaching degree from Northwestern University, three teaching licenses (Math, Art, LBSI), and as an alum of The University of Chicago High School and The Avery Coonley School, Mr. Baum encourages learners with unique strengths, interests and challenges to develop their own systems as they navigate the academic one.
